About This Course

The course covers methods for assessing the performance of computer networks. It treats performance metrics, workload and traffic characterisation, queueing models and their solution, analytical approximation, discrete event simulation, measurement and instrumentation, experimental design, statistical treatment of results, bottleneck identification and the presentation of performance findings. Learning outcomes: Model network components using queueing or simulation techniques. Design and run measurement experiments that yield statistically defensible results. Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend improvements from evaluation evidence.
